Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions about the amenities in the local area.

In each of the three cottages is a large folder that gives more in-depth information on everything you will need to know about the houses/cottages, the farm, amenities, tourist information and Great War local sites.

Q. Is the price per person or total?
A. The price for Chavasse & Snowden Houses is an individual price per person. Coury & Dupres Houses are priced 1-2 guests sharing or 3-4 guests sharing one cottage.

Q. Is Bed Linen and Bedding provided?
A. All bedding and linen is included in the price.

Q. Are towels provided?
A. We don't provide towels, but towels can be hired at extra cost, £5 for two towels 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel.

Q. Is the heating/electric included in the price?
A. All primary heating the oil fired central heating, electric under floor and wall heaters are included in the price.

Q. Do you provide wood for the wood burners?
A. Wood for the Rum Ration and wood burners can be purchased in the farm store or in the local supermarkets.

Q. Who has use of the 'Rum Ration Bar'?
A. The Rum Ration is for the use of everyone staying at Chavasse Farm. All three cottages have their own key.

Q. Is there a BBQ?
A. There is a large brick/oil drum BBQ next to the 'Rum Ration' and two mobile BBQ's in the farm store, all are available for guests to use. Bags of BBQ coals and fire lighters can be purchased from the farm store.

Q. Is there TV?
A. Each house has basic UK Sky TV with 200+ free view channels, and DVD player. (if you take your Sky card from home you can sometimes receive all you usual channels).

Q. Is there internet?
A. The farm is covered by a free WIFI connection, just take you own laptop/mobile device we will give you the log on and password before you arrive.

Q. Do you have any cycles for hire?
A. We have four mountain bikes in the farm store available for guests to rent.

Q. Do you provide Battlefield Tours?
A. Chavasse Farm does conduct Battlefield tours, if you would like a tour we can arrange one for you. See the Battlefield Tour page.

Q. Do you have any Great War research material?
A. Each cottage has its own library of around 100 books covering the Great War but mainly the local Battle of the Somme.

Q. Is there a washing machine and tumble dryer?
A. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer available for guests to use, located in the store/barn.

Q. Is there a shop in the Village?
A. There is not a shop in the Village, but there are shops close by and a bread van visits the Village every morning between 8am & 10am. The nearest small shops are in Combles about three miles distance they include a small food shop, bakery, chemist and Post Office.

Q. How far is the nearest supermarket?
A. Hardecourt is about half way between Albert and Peronne, both are 15km. Both have large supermarkets located on the main roads as you enter the towns from the direction of Hardecourt. The Intermarche on the main road into Albert is open:
Monday - Saturday 0830 - 1930.
Sunday - CLOSED.

Q. Are there any shops open on a Sunday?
A. There are a few small supermarkets open on Sunday mornings from 0900 - 1200. One is the 'Shoppi' in the centre of Bray-sur-Somme about 6 miles from Hardecourt and another in the centre of Albert is also open.

Q. Where is the nearest Petrol/Diesel garage?
A. The nearest fuel pumps are outside the Le Calypso cafe, Longueval about 3 miles from Hardecourt. There are also main fuel garages in both Peronne and Albert, the BP in Albert is open on Sundays.

Q. Where is the nearest Post Office?
A. The nearest Post Office is in Combles, three miles from Hardecourt. There are larger Post Offices in both Albert and Peronne.

Q. Is there anywhere to eat out?
A. There are numerous restaurants in the area especially in Albert and Peronne and the surrounding area. A full list of restaurants is in the local information folder in each cottage. The closest is in Curlu village square 3 miles from Hardecourt.

Q. Is there a Bar in Hardecourt?
A. There is not a bar in Hardecourt except the Rum Ration, the nearest bar is in Longueval 3 miles away. There are numerous bars in both Albert and Peronne.

Q. Where is the nearest Vet?
There are vets in Bapaume, they are used to dealing with British tourists and their pets, pet passports, etc.

Q. Is there any local transport?
There is no local transport to the village, if you are travelling to the Somme you need your own transport or hire a car

Ypres: 126 km, 1 hour 15 mins.
Verdun: 272 km, 2 hours 25 mins.
Calais: 160 km, 1 hour 25 mins.
Disneyland Paris: 170 km, 1 hour 30mins.
The Beach: 143 Km, 1 hour 35 mins
